Paul is Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner with over 49 years of experience in healthcare. He received his RN Diploma in 1977 from Saint Vincent Health Center School of Nursing in Erie Pennsylvania, followed by a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in 1995, and a Masters in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner in 1999 from the combined Clarion/Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania.
His career includes experience as a staff nurse, EMT, nurse manager, emergency preparedness and management at county and regional levels, hospital information systems manager, university nursing instructor, professor of Western Medicine at a Traditional Chinese Medicine University, author, educator, jail health administration, full time Family Practice Nurse Practitioner in a variety of settings including emergency department, family practice, internal medicine, and hospice, as well as inpatient and outpatient chronic pain and addiction treatment.
Paul has participated in emergency management activities since 1985. He was a 6-year member of the Advance Practice Advisory Committee to the Nevada Board of Nursing, and has been appointed as a member of the Disability Advisory Committee for the Nevada Board of Nursing, effective January 2021. In recent years he has added Reiki II, aqua stretch, and meditation to his professional skill set. For fun he holds an amateur radio – general license.
Paul earned a Trauma Nurse Specialist certificate in 1981 and has studied trauma, trauma care, and has a special interest in mechanisms of injury. While a member of the US Army Reserve Nurse Corps, from which he retired as a Major, he was responsible for teams that trained nurses and medics deployed to combat locations throughout the Gulf War Zones – where they were praised for having the lowest morbidity and mortality in theater.
