Therapeutic Approaches

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT works to identify unhelpful thought patterns and change or restructure the negative, distorted thinking and the behaviors it drives that propel substance use.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

DBT focuses on helping clients build new skills to manage challenging, painful emotions rather than avoiding or acting out on them, as well as decrease conflict in relationships.

Mindfulness teaches how to observe present-moment experience—whether positive, painful, or neutral—both internal and external, with greater acceptance. This facilitates greater conscious awareness, reduces reactivity, increases emotional intelligence, and improves the ability to respond to life’s challenges skillfully.

Mutual Aid/Peer Support Recovery Groups

Our group therapy options include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and S.M.A.R.T. Recovery, a cognitive-behavioral-focused alternative to the 12 steps.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

ACT uses acceptance and mindfulness practices mixed with commitment and behavior-change strategies to increase psychological flexibility and expand decision-making options.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI focuses on identifying, clarifying, and working through the natural and normal ambivalence about entering recovery, and helps to reduce harm and move toward abstinence.
